continues

基本解释

continue的基本意思是“继续”,指动作或状态的继续或持续不中断。可表示一件事一直在做,中间没有停歇; 也可以表示中间有一个中断,又接着做下去。
continue可用作不及物动词,也可用作及物动词。用作及物动词时可接名词、动名词、动词不定式或that从句作宾语,也可以接as短语充当补足语的复合宾语。continue还可引出直接引语。
continue还可用作系动词,接(to be+) adj. 或as+ n. 作表语, to be常可以省略。
still continue是个很多余的用法，应该避免，去掉still，用continue就可以了；
continue一般后面常接不定式，比较普遍，而很少用现在分词。不过在作及物动词时，把现在分词看做动名词也是可以的。The baby continued to cry all night. 这个婴儿一晚上都在哭。
continue后面接不定式或者现在分词，都解释为“不停地……”而不是“停止后继续……”的意思。The baby continued to cry (或crying) all night. 句子不可改为The baby continued to cry (或 crying) at eleven o'clock。
continue解释为“(在停止后）继续……”的时候，后接的宾语常有story， article， narrative，discourse，journey等。The author will continue the story in another volume. 这个作加会在另一册中继续这个故事。
continue作不及物动词时，后常接表语。Her temper continued uncertain. 她的脾气持续不稳定。

Beef prices had continued to be high in most areas of the country.
在这个国家的大部分地区,牛肉的价格依然很高。

Despite having new owners, the company will continue to be run by its present management.
公司虽然换了新主人,但它还将继续由现在的经理部门管理。

The politician continued that he thought the government should call on election.
